Song Kol is an alpine lake, 29 kilometres long, 18 kilometres wide and at an altitude of 3013 metres, lolls in a vast treeless plateau of rolling hills, like green velvet-covered dunes in the summertime and is encircled by distant snowy peaks. It is the second-largest lake in Kyrgyzstan after Issyk Kul Lake, and the largest freshwater lake in Kyrgyzstan.

There is a unique winter trip to Song Kul lake by horseback riding and ski. There is a chance to see and feel the Kyrgyz outdoor nomadic life in a traditional house – yurta (Boz ui).

Short description

In winter, the lake freezes over and is covered with ice from November to May. The temperature of the lake in winter drops to -20 ° C and 200 days a year is covered with snow, which reaches up to 1 m.

  • ACCOMMODATION at the yurt camp, shepherds hut is basic, outside amenities, a single supplement is not available.

Preparation for testing:

Transfer to the hotel. Check-in. Resting time.

Day 2

Bishkek – Kyz Art (270 km)

Breakfast. Transfer to Naryn region to the Kyzart pass. It is located at an altitude of 2664 m. The road leads from the Kochkor valley to the Zhumgal valley of the Naryn region passes through it. There is a village with the same name – Kyz Art – behind the pass. Staying at the guesthouse. Dinner.

Day 3

Kyz Art – Kilemche (“carpet”) (20 km), at an altitude of 2535 m

Breakfast. Transfer to the Kilemche jailoo. In the summertime, shepherds are using jailoo for pasture. Here you can a wonderful view of the high mountain Song-Kul lake.
We will go by ski or by horse, it depends on the snow. Staying at shepherds hut. Dinner.

Day 4

Kilemche – Song Kul (16 km) via Tuz Ashuu Pass (3220 m)

Early morning after breakfast way to Song Kul lake via Tuz Ashuu Pass by ski or by horses. Staying in a yurt camp. Dinner.

Day 5

Crossing the other part of Song Kul

After breakfast, we will cross the lake. The lake is 29 km long, 18 km wide at an altitude of 3,013 metres. Staying in tents, dinner.

Day 6

Song Kul

Staying on the other side of the lake. Accommodation in tents. Dinner.

Day 7

Song Kul

Way back to the yurt camp. Dinner.

Day 8

Song Kul – Kyz Art – Bishkek

After breakfast, downhill to Kyz Art village. The bus will wait there. Transfer to Bishkek. Staying at the hotel.

Day off in Bishkek

Bishkek – Ala Archa (40 km) – Razeka (hut)

Ascent to the Ratzeka (3200 m) via the Ak-Sai gorge. The distance is approximately 6.5 km. The ascent takes 4 hours or more, depending on the level of physical fitness. Overnight in the hut.

Day 11

Razeka – Uchitel Peak – Razeka

Overnight in the hut or back to Bishkek. (it depends on what the group will decide).

Day 12

Back to Bishkek

    Som (Kyrgyz som) is the monetary unit of the Kyrgyz Republic. One som is equal to one hundred tyyns. Kyrgyzstan was one of the first countries of the former Soviet Union (and the first in post-Soviet Central Asia) to adopt its own national currency. The average exchange rate is about 85-95 KGS per dollar, or 95-105 KGS per euro. You can review the most recent exchange rate in: You can do it in a bank branch, but also in the center of Bishkek there are a huge number of exchange offices. When exchanging banknotes, they must be in very good condition and without any marks. Small denomination bills are exchanged at a slightly lower rate.
    In large cities, almost in any store you can pay for a purchase or service by credit card, but still cash is more welcome. As for the small villages and settlements, there is only cash.
    There are several mobile network operators in Kyrgyzstan. You can choose any of them: Beeline, Megacom, O! You can buy a SIM card in any shopping center, there are branches of various mobile operators. When you register you will be asked for your passport and offered the most convenient and advantageous tariff for you.
    For sure you would like to make a lot of photos and that's ok. In case of closed places or if you want to make photos to local people, ask first for permission, and remember to show a respectful attitude.
    There are mainly three types of public transport. Buses, trolleybuses and minibuses. The fee ranges from 11 to 15 som. (Less than 20 cents of euro). There is also a very good taxi service, with multiple companies and very affordable. An average trip by taxi can cost between 100 and 200 soms, that is, between 1 and 2 euros. There are shuttles between towns and cities. The cost depends on both the frequency and the distance.
    You can drive with your international permit and you can rent cars if you wish. But you can't taste a drop of alcohol. The traffic police can stop you at any roadblock and check your alcohol level. The tolerance is zero. If you have drunk, however little, you will have problems and you will have to pay a fine.
